Cancel Culture Is the New Boycott

The question is: When should it end?

Boycott, you say? I think you pronounce that cancel nowadays.

Companies who used to be boycotted are now being canceled, many of these cancellations being orchestrated through online efforts.

If you told a bad joke in college or make an off-handed comment to a friend, you may be canceled in the future. You might not have been popular at the time you made such a comment. Anything you’ve ever said or done can and will be used against you. If your past is dredged up, you or your brand may be canceled.

Canceling is the modern form of banishment. Once canceled, no one knows when the sentence is over, or if the sentence is ever over. The question becomes: When is canceling someone or something finished?

When is enough enough?

If someone takes issue with something you did or said, even a long time ago, your future can be canceled for an undetermined amount of time.

Trump had plans to hold a presidential rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma and hundreds of thousands of followers on TikTok registered their attendance. The plan was to register attendance and not actually attend the in-person event.

TikTokers reserved empty seats in advance of the event.

Almost 1 million people registered attendance and did not show for the event, leaving the arena half-empty.

TikTokers celebrate Trump’s long face after the event.

Registering ghost appearances at Trump’s rally becomes favorable across the platform. Users boast the success of repeated efforts in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and other cities across the country.

You can almost hear the chuckles of delight.

People celebrate as Trump becomes frustrated and attempts a little canceling action of his own by canceling TikTok. Trump takes action to ban the popular video application and WeChat by boasting he can shut them down in a single day unless the Chinese owned companies are bought by American-owned companies.

Online platforms can be affected by cancel culture. It’s possible Barron Trump, Trump’s son, likes Roblox and may have had an account. Roblox is a platform where users can create and immerse in 3-D worlds.

Fans of Roblox hypothesize that when Trump found out his son Barron had an account on the platform, Trump canceled Roblox.

Trump allegedly shut down the popular platform and Roblox was not available for use for a few days, according to Meaww.

The double cancel action continues with TikTokers’ attempts to rescue Barron Trump from the White House.

Celebrities are not exempt from the canceling action.

Jimmy Fallon, Jodie Comer, Lana Del Rey, J.K. Rowling, and Ellen Degeneres have all been canceled in some form, according to the New York Post.

Popular brands like Uncle Ben’s and Aunt Jemima get a makeover:

Aunt Jemima is canceled, leaving people to wonder what will happen to Mrs. Butterworth’s syrup.

What of Cream of Wheat?

Will breakfast ever be the same?

Some public figures survive being canceled.

And.

Nothing is exempt.

Harper’s Magazine issues an open letter to cancel the cancel culture, stating it has gone too far. But cancel culture continues to be alive and well.

Cancel culture can come out of nowhere and affect your business, brand, or celebrity status. You can wake up tomorrow and find that you have been canceled.

Should we cancel cancel culture or embrace it?

Looking to make a change? Are you going about in the right way?

Cancel culture gets people’s feathers ruffled, so let’s end on this humorous note.

To cancel or not to cancel? That is the question.

Your political affiliation doesn’t make a difference to me. We’re all people doing the best we can. Products you’ve come to love sometimes get a facelift. We can all stand an updated look from time to time. But, do we need to cancel the success of products and celebrities? Aren’t we all human?

What do you think? Has cancel culture gone too far? When should it end?
