Can you Start a Youtube Channel in 2020 with Just a Phone?

Quality is not really important on this platform when you have good content.

If anyone tells you it’s too late to start a YouTube channel, ignore them. The platform is getting better, and it’s still possible for a new content creator to build a successful YouTube channel from nothing. I see many people this 2020 wanting to have a channel, even when I started mine, many people around me confessed that they were interested in starting one too.

But one of the obstacles or the most common excuse that people say when they want to start their channel is that they don’t have the necessary equipment to create good content, or they don’t have enough money to have what is necessary to start.

The reality is that you do not need to spend thousands of dollars on equipment to start recording videos, there are currently cell phones that have cameras good enough to start a channel. Although you think that the best quality matters, I will explain why you can start a successful channel only using your phone.

People who watch YouTube do that for the content.

When I’m interested in the content of a channel, I don’t care that the person who is recording it puts random images while talking. People who follow a person on a channel do it because they are more real, show their lives, are funny or informative, not for production.

For example, videogame channels are very popular, you can find communities with millions of followers and guys that even started the channels this year have a lot of followers now because they are good on what they do, not for the videos that they record.

The quality of their videos depends on the game that they are playing, not on the camera that they are using. Most of those guys don’t even use a microphone, with their personal headphones they do all their jobs.

Also, we can find channels that do movies or books reviews and parodies, even that they show their face to talk about their opinions on camera, most of the people enjoy the content and doesn't pay attention to the video quality.

Phones already have a good camera quality

Believing that a camera is necessary to start a channel is a mistake. The current cell phones have sufficient quality to make high-quality videos. Even big celebrities with many followers have recorded videos using cell phones. One example is a Selena Gomez video clip, that was recorded with an iPhone 11 pro.

There are a lot of videos right now that are recorded with cellphones, some of them are so good that you don’t even know that was without a professional camera. If you can’t record a good quality video with your cellphone, you probably don't have a good configuration or scenario.

You can do everything on your phone

Technology is growing exponentially. In the past, we used our phones only for calls, now is a work tool, communication, art, and entertainment. You can find a lot of functions that allow you to create a good video just using your phone.

Many people think that you can make a good video just because you have a professional camera. If you don’t know how to use it, your video will have bad quality, it doesn't matter how expensive that camera is. That is because making a good video depends more on how you do it, a good camera helps, but your knowledge is what will make a better video.

Start watching video tricks and how you can make a good shot, to record a video you can use slow-motion and time-lapse to do special effects, and play with the scenario to make the video looks better. Take advantage of daylight and open spaces, you can take professional shots with the correct background.

You can also make basic adjustments when you record a clip on your phone, like changing the light, shadows, rotation, and even filters.

To edit your video, you can use just your phone too. Many cellphones come with basic tools to edit, cut, change the brightness, rotate and change the shadows. Also, there are many apps that allow you to edit for free with useful functions that let you make a video like a professional.

People watch everything on their phones

People don’t really watch videos in the best quality, they don’t start a video and click on the “better quality” setting. Most people just let the video go on after they click on it. Their internet is the one who made the adjustment of quality depending on how much speed they have available, even many people lower the quality of a video they want to see so they don’t waste their data on it.

When you are on a phone, you don’t really want to appreciate the better quality of a video, I have never heard someone say “I liked that youtube video for the quality” And honestly if someone wants to watch something full HD, they would watch television.

When we are on our phone, we want to watch something that catches our attention, and that is not the quality precisely, we want entertainment, education, or something that would be useful for us.

If you are starting a channel, there is no need to spend money from the beginning. Focus on creating good content, build a community of people who follow you because they love what you do, be constant on your uploads, and patient. Remember that success does not come overnight, but you can do it if you work hard on it.
