Can You See You?

Eyes and Heart by Annelise Lords, Brain by Istock

Angella and Paul were watching the news, and seeing what’s happening in America, started talking about eyes, and how many sighted humans aren’t able to see what they are doing, even when it’s destroying the lives of innocent adults and children.

Angella said, “Maybe we should move the eyes and put it where the heart is,” her eyes on the TV, watching the news and seeing demonstrators running away from the police.

The eyes were watching and didn’t say a thing.

“But why the heart?” Paul asked, his eyes focused on the looters taking advantage of the crisis their country was experiencing.

“Because it sees everything, and it knows the truth.”

The eyes didn’t agree or disagree.

“Yes, but many hearts remain silent, keeping the truth hidden,” he reminded her as the news switch to a reporter saying, “We are still waiting on the President to address the nation.”

“I know, but a heart filled with love can’t keep silent,” she ranted on.

The news switched back to a police officer puncturing the tire of a car, while other officers dragged the two college students who weren’t resisting arrest, out of their car and tasering them.

“What about a heart filled with hatred,” he roared on building anger as he goes.

She nodded sadly and said, “A heart filled with hatred will never see the truth.”

“So why put the eyes there?” he asked.

She stared at her husband.

He waited, staring back as her emotions flooded her face, she forced in a smile and said, “Many of us can’t seem to see the damage we are doing to others and ourselves, even with eyes. We are blinded by our own actions, yet are quick to see, condemn, and judge the actions of others. The best part of many of us comes from the heart.”

Still, the eyes see nothing.

“How about placing it where our brain is? He suggested.

“Good idea,” she said, plucking out her eyes.

Many of us can’t see our actions, even with eyes, heart, a brain, and the painful and sometimes deadly consequences our actions bring us and others. Maybe the eyes should be much closer to the brain for some, and the heart for others. What about you? Can you see your actions?
