Can You Describe Your Ideal Reader on Medium?
Your Dream Reader on Medium: Who Are They?

Close your eyes and imagine waking up to the sound of gorgeous birds singing the music of sexiness and lust. Picture the blue sky; the ocean is calm, and your wife, girlfriend, or whoever you prefer is not home. Everything feels quiet and peaceful; there is no drama, nothing, and complete calmness. Take a deep breath and hummmm.
You take your phone from below your pillow and click on Medium’s icon; you check for the responses to your last article, and all the comments seem thoughtful, meaningful, and engaging. OMG, is that heaven? Wouldn’t that be the best life for you as a writer? Swoosh, pouring a pail of water all over your big face, it’s time to wake up, sugar Papi! You are a bad boy, aren’t you? How did you manage to read that much while closing your eyes? Huh? Huh? Huh? “Your wife is back home” :D

The last time I was bored at a five-star hotel bar, I asked myself why not read an article on Medium; a stranger-sexy girl in her 25s reached out and wanted to start a conversation. She asked, oh, you look pretty social on the Internet; what app are you hanging on? I said, ‘Medium.’ She replied, ‘Medium? What is Medium?’ I said it’s an online platform for socially awkward people who can’t find sophisticated friends to hang out with at a hotel’s bar. She was gone in the following three microseconds.
Medium is one of the most engaging and fun communities on the Internet; it’s where all sophisticated and crazy people gather to plan for a cosmopolitan life and brag about being geniuses.
On Medium, you find both intelligent and not-too-intelligent readers who read and comment on different topics with different styles of responses. Some readers like to have fun and make jokes; others want to take things seriously and stick to the point. Some soulless machines we call bots always prefer to leave shallow comments such as “Great article.” Yes, we have those AI comments, too, of course. I always find them very thoughtful, but I’ve put all those people on my blocklist for a clearer view.
Our beloved coach told me here, “Quality trumps quantity.” Me… Confused…! I asked for the definition of quality and was told that it’s not easy to define, and it’s different by topic and the reader.

Okay, I get it! I dislike the ‘quantity’ game and focus on quality work. But hey, are you suggesting that my readers define the quality of my work? They are all so sweet and careful. To be honest, most of us reciprocate. So, I’m curious: which readers are you referring to?
Don’t get me wrong, my dear friends, all kinds of comments are lovely for me as long as they are respectful to the community and fellow writers. People have different attitudes, mindsets, ways of processing information, and reasons to read and engage with other writers.
The more followers I gain on Medium, the more it seems that people want to get closer and engage on a personal level. Some people want attention, and others want to feel respected and not ignored. Everyone from different places, races, sexes, and religions is welcome to leave comments, and I respect them all.
Many writers fall in love with their writing and ask their readers to take their work seriously. They ignore comments that don’t go in their favor and only clap or comment on responses that show empathy toward the writer and like their writing style. I think that’s a huge mistake.
Your writing is essential, but Medium is a platform that gives readers the space to interact with different goals, approaches, and points of view. But, my fellow serious writers, I will go with your ego today and give you the space to describe your ideal readers. Tell me, who do you wish to read your articles? How do you like them to engage with your articles? And what do you want to see from them in the comment beyond nice compliments?

It’s your right as a writer to feel respected by your readers and get valuable feedback; however, I’m not entirely sure if Medium is the right place. Your contributions benefit other fellow writers and perhaps readers to take your writing more seriously and spend an extra effort reading through the entire article and leaving thoughtful comments.
As usual, I welcome your claps, but I enjoy your comments more; kindly leave your priceless wisdom in the comment section. I appreciate your contribution. Thanks!
