Can You Be Successful On Medium?
It depends on how you measure success
Success on Medium
I see these articles a lot. Can you be successful on medium?
I guess it depends on what you constitute as success.
It is like anything else in life you get what you put into it!
Consistency
If it's mostly about money then many of us are going to end up feeling we failed, because from what I understand only 10% of medium writers will make more than 100 dollars a month.
That is a grim statistic.
I am not discouraged though. I have noticed a steady incline since I began writing on medium in late March. I was accepted into the partner program in April. since then this is what I have learned.
The algorithm rewards consistency
I publish a lot and I mean a lot. I am currently approaching 250 posts since I began in March. At times I even have to wonder if I publish a tad too much. I am going to say no, because the more stories that I put out the better chances I have of one being a hit.
Monetary Success
It happened to me the other day before I left for my camping trip I wrote and published a lot to compensate for lost days writing. I expected to come home and find a major drop in my stats. I figured it might hurt a minute but I could catch back up.
Wow! Was I surprised to see one of my articles had taken off! It had 700 views and earned me 7.00. For the next two days, the reads kept rolling in and two days later that story is sitting at 19.00. This was for only one article!
Every other story I have has only earned on average 60 cents. or less. With that said, 60 cents adds up when you write and publish a lot of stories. I am not saying throw up a bunch of stories for an easy buck what I am saying is be consistent and you will reap some monetary rewards.
Other Measures of Success on Medium
So let's put money aside. what do you think of when someone says success. well, it is subjective.
When I think of personal success I look at it from this standpoint.
Have I learned anything I can take away from the experience?
Have I felt better about myself as a result of my endeavor?
Have I become a better person or have grown in any way?
If I had to go by those factors alone then yes I have absolutely been successful.!
I most likely won't be one of those top writers who make 6 figure incomes from writing on medium.
I may not even be in the 100-dollar club, but I won't stop striving for it. It is not all about money. If I can reach someone with my words then I feel successful. If I learn about myself then I have been successful.
Takeaway
I already feel like I have been successful on medium because I took risks and put myself out there. A few years ago that is something I would have never done. I am conquering my fears of vulnerability and that on its own is a major accomplishment.
So to answer your question, can you be successful on medium?
You tell me.
Do you feel you have succeeded here?
Only you can truly answer that!
