Can Improving Fitness Build Confidence? My Personal Experience

Can you become more confident by exercising? How do you define confidence?

According to Google, confidence means;

The feeling or belief that one can have faith in or rely on someone or something.

But the word confidence can mean different things to different people. No one is confident in all situations and circumstances.

Confidence is not consistent, as it can depend on the context. It also means you’re human, and it is okay not to be confident in everything and anything. It is okay to feel anxious in new or unexpected situations.

There will be days when you feel good.

The weather is good.

People are nice to you.

Everything is going according to your plan or how you wanted it to be.

You feel like you could do anything at that time, or you feel confident in yourself or your abilities to do things.

Then there will be days when you feel like shit!

The weather is terrible.

People make your day worse.

Everything goes the other way you want it to go.

You have no control over anything, and you doubt yourself or your abilities to do things.

But, there is a caveat to this explanation.

You see, what I explained is when you feel confident due to your mood, situation, and state of mind.

Also, on the spectrum of confidence, some people feel confident more often than they doubt themselves. While others doubt themselves more of the time then they feel confident.

For obvious reasons, it is always better to be the former person.

Therefore, this is where fitness comes in handy.

Research has shown that regular exercise can boost your:

It also helps to reduce your risk of stress, clinical depression, dementia, and Alzheimer’s.

From personal experience, I hate the way I look when I start to gain too much weight.

Some might say that it does not matter if you are out of shape; you need to love yourself no matter what.

But I am sure you have had that experience when you start gaining weight. Your clothes stop fitting you or looking good. You wake up and look in the mirror, and you hate that you have gained some pounds on your belly.

I get that feeling, too, and no matter what, I cannot begin to love myself or feel confident if I start getting out of shape.

Therefore, I need to have a good exercise schedule and diet to feel more confident in myself.

It shows I am willing to put in the work to keep up my confidence.

It also shows that I care about myself and am disciplined enough to do something about it.

As a result, being fit and healthy moves us closer towards the spectrum of being or feeling confident more times than the times we doubt ourselves.
