Summary

The website content discusses the utility of the "kicker" feature on Medium, explaining its purpose, how to use it, and its benefits for writers.

Abstract

The Medium platform offers a feature known as the "kicker," which is often underutilized despite its significant benefits. The kicker serves as a hook or classification tool, enhancing the visibility of articles by optimizing search results and grouping related content. For instance, an article titled 'How to Transform your Kitchen' could be paired with a kicker like 'Home DIY' to link it with other articles in the same series, thereby increasing the writer's reach. To apply a kicker, one needs to navigate to the space above the main title, type the desired text, highlight it, and select the small 'T' option. This simple action can lead to improved article discoverability and reader engagement.

Opinions

  • The kicker feature is considered essential for giving articles an "extra punch."

MEDIUM TOOLS — KICKER

Can I Kick It?

Yes, you can! If you want to give your article that extra punch (sorry) use your kick!

The kicker feature is probably the most overlooked on Medium. It was only when I took the plunge that I became hooked, which, in a nutshell, is its function.

The kicker is best described as a hook or classification tool. Better still, the kicker will optimise search results to lead traffic your way.

If your story title is ‘How to Transform your Kitchen’, your kicker could be ‘Home DIY’. If you’re writing a series of articles on home and DIY, your kicker will link those articles under one group, maximizing your reach.

How to Kick?

Simply kick back a space upwards from your main title to produce the option for a kicker. Type your text. Highlight and click on the small T. You’re done!

Happy kicking!
