Can Google Bard’s New Model Gemini Surpass ChatGPT?

Well, there is no short answer to this question but after reading this post, you will gain a better understanding.

Let’s be honest — I have always trusted Google over any other company.

This trust is largely because the man who transformed Google, Sundar Pichai, is still at the helm.

However, when we consider Google in the field of AI, it lags behind ChatGPT, and Google acknowledges this fact.

This realization is the driving force behind their intensive efforts to strengthen their position in the AI space, albeit with some fake promises.

The main question that arises is whether Google Bard can surpass ChatGPT in the AI realm.

Well, there is no short answer to this question but after reading this post, you will gain a better understanding.

With that said, let’s get started.

ChatGPT’s record-breaking journey, and Microsoft's Dominance

First of all, we all know that ChatGPT brought the AI revolution, benefiting from a first-mover advantage. Along with that, with the support of the OpenAI API, numerous AI tools have come into existence.

In addition to this, ChatGPT made some insane records like it only took them only 2 months to reach 100 million users. And now, it has more than 180 million users worldwide.

If we compare it with other trending apps, it’s mind-blowing.

For example, it took Instagram 2.5 years to reach 100 million users, TikTok took 9 months, and so on.

Note that the only app that broke the ChatGPT record was Thread, which gained 100 million signups within 5 days of being launched. However, it’s worth mentioning that a record number of users didn’t use Thread after a while.

So, the main winner is ChatGPT; it is insane, as you can use it for tons of tasks. I have even written a book to help everyone learn how to use ChatGPT like a pro.

Also, in terms of investment, it is backed by Microsoft, which has invested billions of dollars to acquire approximately a 49% stake in OpenAI, according to various sources.

As you can see in the above chart, Microsoft reported $198 billion in revenue and $83 billion in operating income.

So, they have a huge amount of money that they can use to uplift ChatGPT.

Other than that, not to forget the hard-working and smart man behind ChatGPT, Sam Altman, who has been a favorite of everyone that even the board members can’t able to fire.

And thanks to Sam Altman, along with his team, they have developed something insane, which is a plus point for them.

Now, if we think based on these parameters, we can clearly say that if ChatGPT continues to work like this, there is no way Google AI chatbot Bard can surpass it.

But we can’t predict the future just by knowing the power ChatGPT has.

Google’s Dominance

According to Statista, Google Chrome was used by 63.6 percent of internet users worldwide between July and August 2023.

So we can clearly say Google has a monopoly over the internet browser, and because of this, they made around 162.45 million dollars in the year 2022 just from Ads via Google Search.

It accounts for over 58.1% of the revenue that Google earns, which is more than 50% of the revenue that comes from Google Search.

And that’s what Microsoft wants to grab from Google’s hand.

That’s the reason Microsoft added several features to Microsoft Edge that even the ChatGPT-3.5 version doesn’t have.

For example, you can use ChatGPT-4 inside Microsoft Bing, and also, you can also generate images with DALLE 3 with the help of Microsoft Bing.

But note that Google has a lot of dominance like it has over 4.3 billion users worldwide.

The plus point for Google is that it has a large audience and has complete dominance among internet users.

So, whenever they try to launch something new, they have a large user base that they can target.

Even, they have a huge database.

ChatGPT vs Bard

When ChatGPT was launched, the world was surprised that a single chatbot could produce such insane use cases.

Even Sundar Pichai, Elon Musk, and Mark Zuckerberg were surprised and tense about the growth of ChatGPT.

That’s the reason Google went into panic mode to launch their chatbot with the name Google Bard.

For sure, when Google Bard was launched, it came with several options and even new features that ChatGPT didn’t have.

They also integrated Bard with Google Workspace, so you can use Gmail and YouTube with better productivity. But even then, ChatGPT became dominant in the AI space.

Here’s the result.

As you can see, even today, the popularity of ChatGPT is increasing and in comparison to that, no one is looking to Google Bard.

So, right now, the clear winner is ChatGPT.

ChatGPT vs Bard (With Gemini)

Wait, the blog article is not over yet.

Some of you may throw some questions that Google was in panic mode so they weren’t capable of making Bard the best they could.

Sure, my friend, and that’s the reason they were working on something better called Gemini which recently came into the hype after they talked about it in their recent blog.

In which they said they are launching Gemini into 3 different sizes i.e.

  • Gemini Ultra
  • Gemini Pro
  • Gemini Nano

Besides this, they shared a lot of demos and even shared that Gemini Ultra outperforms ChatGPT-4 in several parameters.

For sure, we can’t say anything about this because Gemini Ultra will launch the next year.

Yes, you can use Gemini Pro right inside Google Bard.

I have personally tried Gemini Pro, and let me tell you, I haven’t found it worth using.

Furthermore, after reading many blog posts and watching several videos, it’s apparent that they have lied or, to be more precise, twisted their output to make it seem more impressive to users.

You can learn more about it here.

In this video, Matt Wolfe provides a brief overview showing the untrustworthy game played by Google.

Additionally, TechCrunch has also written about it, expressing concerns.

Even TechCrunch has a blog stating that Google’s Gemini isn’t the generative AI model we expected.

This is indeed a major concern, and Google may face repercussions for spreading misinformation about its new model.

Let’s Wrap Up

I believe that Google even today is in panic mode, and they seem to be rushing things.

This haste is leading them to make several mistakes in their efforts to generate hype around their AI chatbot.

Talking about ChatGPT, there has been a lot of recent speculation that ChatGPT is secretly working on AGI, and there are plans to launch ChatGPT-5, which is expected to be a much-improved model compared to its predecessors.

Considering what’s happening now, I think ChatGPT will become more popular in the field of AI and might become even better than Google.

Hope you like it.

That’s it — thanks.
