Can Dancing Be A Good Workout?
If anyone watches “Dancing with the Stars”, they know that a lot of the contestants lose weight during the competition. But more importantly, those pro dancers….WOW!
Talk about some awesome looking bodies! Sure, those Pros dance all the time, that’s their occupation, but dancing can be just as effective for you. So, that being said, I wanted to write a little about how dancing can be fun AND healthy at the same time.
If you’re the type of person who really isn’t into the weight lifting stuff and walking on a treadmill just isn’t your thing, then dancing may be right up your alley! Hey, and who knows, it may even be fun for you to do!
Even though “Dancing with the Stars” focuses more on ballroom dancing, I’m talking more along the lines of a structured fitness type of dancing (aerobic, step, modern, etc). If you didn’t already know, these dances can burn ridiculous calories and change the shape of your body like you wouldn’t believe!
Let’s get into some reasons why dancing is so good for you, in more than just overall fitness as well.
Dancing Gives You that “Dancer’s Body”…..DUH!
I usually don’t watch “DWTS” very often, but when I do, I notice how those dancers’ bodies look! Holy Moly! Talk about something that will turn heads! WoW! Girls, you want to have a body like that? Dancing may get you there. Nuff Said.
Dancing Limbers You Up
If you’re a couch potato, or a total weight lifting nut, then once you start dancing you WILL BE SORE! Why? Because dancing FORCES your body to use muscles it usually wouldn’t use, which, in turn, may cause some soreness. Just so you know, this is a GOOD soreness and you should embrace it! The more limber you get, the better (and healthier) you will be, not to mention your coordination and balance will improve.
Dancing: A Great Way To Burn Calories
Because dancing is (usually) constant movement, it’s not a stretch to understand you WILL burn calories during a dance session. To be honest, it’s basically an aerobic workout. Because it can be so much fun, dance classes can be one of the hardest workouts you’ll ever do without realizing you’re working out so hard. You could be sweating your butt off before you realize you’ve actually worked out! Which, in turns, means you have sweated off some major calories.
Total Body Workout
Of course, when you’re dancing, you don’t focus on one particular muscle group. Oh sure, you may be working your legs more than any other part, but the rest of your body is forced to follow along, which in turn, causes a total body workout. You may not be able to bench press a Buick after a few weeks of dancing, but the tone and shape of your body will certainly give you a smile, which is what you’re looking for, right?.
One Last Thing
Guys, aerobic dancing is not just for women. You may not think you fit into those classes, but think about this, the ratio of ladies to guys is usually in your favor. I’ll let you take that comment however you would like.
So, the bottom line is to no just blow off a dance type of workout. You never know what it could do for your health and fitness.
