The Anxious Enthusiast Travels
Calling All Travelers: How Would You NYC in December?
My first “Dear Medium Writers” Letter

Dear Medium Writers,
I’m asking for your help. My partner and I just booked a runaway trip to NYC in mid-December. We are going to be there on weekdays to beat the weekend traffic. I’ve been to NYC once. It was terrible. My agoraphobic dad drove us there from Michigan and insisted on driving us around the city. No good came of it.
It’s time for a re-do, lovers-style. We’ve already booked our hotel. I’m super stoked about it; it’s a couple of blocks from Rockefeller Center. I want recommendations in the following 5 categories:
Food
I know this is hard. Everyone I’ve asked about food in NYC is like, “There’s no bad food, just eat” and I’m like, “How?” and they’re like, “You just…eat” and I’m like, “What does that mean?” and they’re like, “I can’t tell you everything” and I’m like, “CAN YOU TELL ME ONE THING.”
What hut/crevice/stall/hole/digs/restaurant/manse serves the best grub? We’re looking for a nice place or two with jammin’ cocktails or a fab wine list that doesn’t require we sell anything for a bottle. Other than that, I’m looking for the city’s best or brightest bagel, a killer pie, a succulent and trashy cup noodle, and anything I will regret the rest of my life if I don’t have it in NYC.
Not opposed to the world’s best cup of coffee either, if you’ll share the deets.
Shows and must-see entertainment
My partner and I have looked at the list of current Broadway shows and we just can’t decide! We’re thinking to go to a night show and maybe a matinee on Wednesday. A few of them we’ve dismissed because we’ve already seen them, but I’d love to be pitched on a show or landmark so hard that I can’t refuse.
Christmas
I’m looking to be absolutely slammed with Christmas and Holiday Cheer. That includes copious amounts of wine and a bit of stumbling along twinkle-lit storefronts. What should not be missed? (No answer is dumb; I will walk too many blocks to see a lit-up mailbox.)

The Big Apple Outdoors
I get it. It’s gonna be cold. Bring it on! I’ve been living in Dallas for eight years and could use a little frostbite. Where are the strolls divine? What grand, wintry views are worth a gander?
Tips & Tricks
What do I need to know to prep myself for entering NYC and my short-lived excursion into a New York state of mind? I want to fit in. I’ve got anxiety, but I want to enjoy this trip with my lover. I’m also not street-smart. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
I may be too “nice” so if anyone has a recipe for RBF I could use that, too.
