My Viral Story Almost Ruined Me!
Two weeks after I joined Medium, I wrote a story about my progress.
“I Got 175 Followers In 2 Weeks On Medium”
The day I posted my story my stats looked like this:

I was proud of myself — watching 30 views grow into 45, I felt happy!
I didn’t expect this story to blow up and get me 1,000 views over the weekend.

How small the first days of February now seem! How can I be proud of this FLAT LINE anymore?
Whatever Rises Must Fall
I became overly confident.
I thought of myself as Medium’s prodigal son, capable of anything!
Alas, I was unable to replicate my earlier success.
I improved every aspect of my writing, yet I couldn’t get more than 100 views on a story.
I felt like giving up. I almost did.
I had a one-time success, and that was it. Medium was not for me.
I was lucky ONCE and didn’t have what it takes to succeed.
It took all the strength I had to keep on writing and publishing daily.
And thank god I did.
Let me show you some interesting numbers:

These were my 7 most profitable stories for February.
Total Earnings: $136.08
- Since this story made me $34.75, it amounts to 25% of my earnings.
That’s a big chunk of $$.
HOWEVER
- This means 75% of my earnings came from the rest of my articles.
While I was sulking about my inability to create another trending story, my decision to keep writing made me quadruple my earnings!
A Simple Takeaway
We’ve all heard that consistency is the pillar for success on Medium.
This proved to me that daily activity matters more than trending stories.
Through my short-lasting misery I learned these 3 valuable lessons:
- Believe in the process and don’t give up.
- Negative feelings of disappointment can be handled.
- The community of Medium is warm and supportive.
Thankfully, these beautiful people wouldn’t let me leave the Medium game so easily. I’m grateful to all of you and I can’t wait to grow alongside you.
