Bye-bye Bard, Hello Gemini — Can Gemini Catch Up to ChatGPT’s Established Strengths?
The Battle for AI Supremacy Heats Up
Introduction
In the rapidly changing artificial intelligence world, Google introduced its newest creation two days ago: Gemini Advanced. This pioneering initiative aims to reshape the world of AI-driven conversational systems, setting itself up as a powerful contender against the renowned ChatGPT. With distinct Google-centric features and enhanced capabilities, Gemini Advanced isn’t merely an update — it represents a significant leap toward the future of conversational AI.

The Gemini Advanced is on the stage
The move from Bard to Gemini symbolizes more than a simple name change; it marks a deliberate shift toward the full capabilities of AI. With the introduction of Gemini Advanced, Google brings an assortment of improvements over its former versions. Its launch sends a decisive message: Google is positioning itself to shake up the current standards and directly compete with ChatGPT’s stronghold.
Distinctive Features of Gemini Advanced
Gemini Advanced differentiates itself with several features that are quintessentially Google:
- Integration with Google Services: Users gain unmatched convenience through its synergy with Google Maps, YouTube, and Workspace (For example Colab).
- Advanced Capabilities: The model excels in complex coding tasks, logical analysis, and creative endeavors, setting a new industry standard (According to Google :P).
- Mobile Accessibility: A dedicated Android app, with an iOS version in the works, makes cutting-edge AI available on the go.
Multimodal Interaction
What sets Gemini Advanced apart is its multimodal interaction capacity. Moving beyond text-only chatbots, Gemini engages through images and potentially voice, offering a more natural and dynamic user experience. This development heralds a new wave of AI applications, enhancing everything from search functions to personalized assistance.
Pricing and Accessibility
Gemini Advanced can be accessed via the Google One AI Premium plan at $20 per month. This not only challenges ChatGPT Plus but also provides additional value with services like two terabytes of storage, appealing to users within the Google ecosystem.
Testing Gemini’s Capabilities
Gemini UI
Without further ado, let’s delve into testing the capabilities of Gemini. I first navigated to the following website: https://gemini.google.com/app. The screenshot below would showcase Gemini’s user interface, where you can engage with the system through typed requests.

Python Code Generation
I challenged Gemini to generate code for plotting stock prices — a task that, while not overly complex, is a common one for developers.

Impressively, Gemini facilitated the exploration of its sharing and exporting features. The excellent news is that I was able to directly export this generated code into my Colab workspace, as depicted below.

UI Code Generation
Comparatively, I conducted a similar test with ChatGPT. I submitted a drawing of a user interface and requested ChatGPT to generate the corresponding code. ChatGPT was able to fulfill this requirement.
However, when attempting the same with Gemini, the result differed. As indicated in the screenshot, Gemini responded that it cannot generate code from images directly. Instead, it offered guidance on the user interface elements based on the image provided, which is still quite helpful for developers in the early stages of design.

The Future of Google’s AI Endeavors
Google’s dedication to Gemini Advanced reflects its commitment to leading the AI domain. By unifying its AI under the Gemini brand, Google is streamlining its offerings and indicating its ambition to dominate the AI space. The integration of Gemini into Google’s suite of apps foretells a more interconnected and intelligent user experience.
Conclusion
In summary, Google’s Gemini Advanced positions itself as a significant player in the AI market by leveraging the robust Google ecosystem for an integrated user experience. Its main advantage lies in the seamless synergy with Google services, offering a cohesive and convenient platform for users. However, when it comes to the raw AI capabilities, especially in areas like direct code generation from images, it does not surpass ChatGPT. Gemini Advanced’s value proposition is thus rooted in its ecosystem integration rather than standalone AI superiority.
