Buying Penzey’s Spices = Anti-Racist

Republicans are racist. Like this is 1619.
Penzey’s Spices, a nationwide chain of outstanding spice stores, knows. When we weren’t looking, when we were trying to figure out how to celebrate MLK weekend and not perpetuate it wrongly, Penzey’s Spices called the GOP out for what they are. Penzey’s sponsored a special sale at their stores and whammo — it got traction.
When I lived in the Midwest, I always ordered from Penzey’s Spices in nearby Wisconsin. Now that I moved to the coast where I belong, there is a Penzey’s down the road from me.
So when I read that Penzey’s was doing an MLK Weekend sale, I got on it. I will go drop some dollars in their coffers. It is the least I can do this week after the company declared MLK Weekend, “Republicans Are Racist Weekend” and had a sale. I didn’t believe it at first.
I laughed when I read the actual story in newspapers and on social media. Here are a few tweets to show you Bill Penzey, the owner has values, real values. It was real.
Penzey’s spent $100,000 on ads demanding the previous President be impeached (#45) two years ago, I have read. Another reason to get some ginger, garlic powder, and curry from Penzey’s. They also sell my favorite — the Ethiopian spice, berbere.
They are on the right side of justice and morality. Anti-racist well before #45 showed up spouting hate and the GOP, like cowards, fell into formation and refused to challenge the guy. And these racists hate the company now. They called for a boycott. Imagine. They did it to themselves. There will be more of this. It will not stop. Call it out every time it rears its head.
You need some spice. Represent. #Penzeys. And call racists out every day all day.
