Buying a $4 Product And Reselling It Grew My Income More Than $1000

You do not need a complicated idea to start

Some people are figuring out an easy way to create money. Everybody wants a low capital and a high return on investment.

Today, Millennials — and Gen Z is curious to try out many things. Some found a way to pull off something — but others get carried away with advertorial copies that do not genuinely present their claim.

A business idea does not need to be complicated. I was impressed that to earn a neat profit — it needs to be a brick-and-mortar business based on what we see in our surroundings.

But what if you do not have enough money?

What if your risk appetite is not that ingrained deeply?

I have invested $10,000 in a startup that never flew. It was a costly experience — but it did not stop me from exploring other means to make it through. I came across a side hustle that allowed me to earn money. Not that much — but it can be a good start for somebody who is not afraid to put in so much money.

Determine a product that never goes out of style

People say that you can never go wrong with going into the food business — The question is how to start.

I live in a condominium near the central business district. I see people selling rice meals during lunchtime in corporate offices. It looks like a lucrative business — but my wife and I do not have the time and resources to cook food and deliver it to the office.

I had to work in the morning while my wife — homeschooled my kids. I wonder what kind of food to sell and what it would look like when we execute the plan.

Buy low, sell high and fly high

My mother-in-law lived thirty kilometers away from our place — introduced me to organic eggs.

She ordered it in a community market — and it was materially cheap compared to the supermarket near our area. I brought up the idea to my wife to buy a tray of eggs and try selling it in our place.

White eggs are constant goods in every people’s market list. But we believe that organic eggs were feasible because it was a healthy option — and people were buying them — as we noticed in a nearby market.

One tray of eggs (30 pieces) costs $4 from a supplier — and if we compare it to how much it is in the nearby grocery, it is selling for $4 for one dozen.

When I prorate the cost, it gives me a net profit of $1 per tray. Scale this — and you win in this venture.

Your network is your net worth

My first impression is that your network is your net worth felt like I am a user.

But it resonated with me well when I started my side hustle project. To test the feasibility of my 4-dollar investment, my wife reaches out to our friendly neighbor.

That neighbor reached out to us after a week for a second order after the first sale.

One tray today, the following week — the order was two trays. It opens up my mind — that if we sell to families within the condominium building. It would give us neat savings as we go along.

Pitch and preach

We reached out to online communities within our condominium building to sell more of our products.

My wife would reach out to fellow Zumba students in their Wednesday class once a week. The friend neighbor acted as our ambassador telling us how good the eggs were.

Our business was not just limited to our condominium neighbors but also to other communities within the area through the referral of our condo resident owners and tenants.

We also gained foreign clients and delivered it to their units as we went along.

Monitor their buying pattern

I have a list of my customers and monitor the period they consume the goods.

Say one family who is a heavy consumer of eggs would place an order after six days of ordering from us. Instead of waiting for our customers to reach out to us — we proactively reach out if they need one.

This routine would not just build loyalty to our customers — but we are not also giving them room to buy in the grocery — and instead get from us.

It is a simple hack to forecast how many trays of eggs we would order to supply for the next cycle.

Final Thoughts

Creating money streams does not have to be complicated. You can create an income model by following this business cycle.

Launching a side hustle must make you fast money. It should be feasible and easy to execute.

Food is an evergreen business, so we chose eggs to be our side hustle project. We sought vendors that supply us with quality eggs and reasonable prices. Find customers who are willing to buy at a given price.

Scale the idea by reaching out to communities willing to buy your product. Establish loyalty by providing convenience to them at the same time.
