PHOTO-A-DAY CHALLENGE

Butterflies, Endless Views, and a Family Reunion

Week 97 of the photographic documentary of my daily life

My days keep flying past. I don’t know why and where all the time disappears, but despite us having longer and longer days, I find less and less time to write and read.

I guess it’s a good sign too. It means I’m active. I work. I play. I do things.

But the more I do, the more stories I create. And all those stories I want to share with you. I will try my best to catch up with reading and writing in the next few days, but soon I’ll go on a short trip again and know I won’t have time for anything online.

Which is awesome. I love traveling. I love exploring new places. And I love being outdoors.

My week started on Thursday with some jumping out of planes of course. The weather wasn’t the best, and my picture is even worse. But I’m in love with the poppy flower fields at the moment. Even from the sky, you can see the red shining across the flat country.

I will try to get better photos throughout the week. If you look closely, you can see one bright red field and a few smaller ones too.

Friday must have been a busy day, and I knew it before the day had begun. I took this picture of my breakfast bowl with the feeling I wouldn’t have time to take any other photographs the rest of the day.

Saturday was even busier which is why I choose pictures I took at work to share with you. In the distance, you can see another red poppy flower field. Unfortunately, they are too far from our landing zone, so I can’t fly closer for a better picture from the sky.

As the day was coming closer to the end, I was flying towards the setting sun and thought about you guys taking one more picture. Obviously, it doesn’t display the real beauty of the moment, but it comes close enough.

Sunday wasn’t as busy as Saturday but we were happy to finish a little earlier since my parents were arriving. They came to visit us and drove all the way from Stuttgart in a six to seven-hour drive.

We sat down in the evening chatting about all kinds of things and just as the moon was rising I remembered I hadn’t taken a photo yet. It wasn’t a full moon yet, but I loved how the moon appeared behind the clouds that were still lit by the setting sun.

Monday, our off day, and my dad’s birthday. What perfect timing.

After a relaxed breakfast, we left the trailer park and headed out into nature. We had the paddleboard and kayak packed. My mom wasn’t keen on getting on the water but was in heaven as the area we had stopped was a birding paradise.

My dad, husband, and I went out on the canal while my mom stayed behind with her binoculars pointed into the trees.

The weather wasn’t persistent at all but we managed to avoid the first rain shower as it was passing us just on the side. After we got back from the paddle, the sky got dark again. We quickly jumped in the car but decided to wait it out since we were planning to have a barbeque on the lake.

The rain shower didn’t last long and after half an hour we were back out enjoying the sun. The grass was still covered in rain drops which were now shining and sparkling in the sun.

Later in the afternoon, I went with my mom on a short walk through the forest behind our trailer park, looking for birds. We heard a lot of birds but most of them were high up in the trees, out of sight, and too far for my lens.

The grass in the forest was about a meter tall, shining in the setting sun.

The wind was still strong, moving the grass all around. I spotted a butterfly clinging onto a single blade of grass. It wasn’t easy to get him on camera since the grass was moving so fast from left to right but I got this picture with not too many blades in the shot.

The next day we were back to work, and my parents went to explore some nearby lakes and nature reserves. Later in the afternoon, I headed out again for a birding walk with my mom.

While she was all about listening to the sound of the birds and showing me whatever bird she spotted, I pointed out the deer running across the field. It stopped for a moment and had eye contact with me before it continued the trip toward the forest.

As we were having dinner, it started to rain again, and all of a sudden, I saw this explosion of colors in the sky.

On Wednesday morning, my parents left again, and I forgot to take pictures for the challenge. I found this shot I took on my way up to altitude as I was filming the skydive of one of my clients.

It reminded me of boundless nature and the monthly challenge I still wanted to submit a response to.

Everything comes with time. And so do my articles.
