Burrowing Owls And Their Safety.

What you should know. (free verse)

I think I did a good thing today.

The birds were a blur; then, they stayed by their burrow and watched, as the rope was unfurled.

Yellow rope and a sign with a picture of them telling people to take note. “They live here.”

An iguana has taken over their original burrow, so it was not included. So sad! Iguana are unsafe as well.

They have been there for four years. I have watched their funny antics for at least that long.

Surprisingly, no one has bothered them. They are surreal. Pop up here, pop up there, then fly to the rooftops when the mowers come.

They don’t want to be bothered that’s for sure. They will give you THE look that makes you take another look that says “check yourself before you wreck yourself.”

All wonderful creatures with the most unique features.

They clean their burrow at least monthly. They love the rain and unfurl their wings and dance. The funniest thing I saw them do is walk backwards, squat and poop, run back to the burrow. Now that was funny!

These little owls are part of my day!

I would miss them if they were hurt or taken away!
