Use Rollup Today: Building on Arbitrum Rollup at ETHDenver

We’re happy to announce that Offchain Labs will be sponsoring ETHDenver on February 14–16, one of the most exciting Ethereum hackathons of the year.
By now you may have seen the hype surrounding Rollup on Ethereum. Rollup is an approach to scaling smart contracts that moves execution off-chain while keeping all transaction data on the blockchain. This enables trustless execution of Layer 2 smart contracts much more cheaply than on standard Ethereum.
Despite all the hype, there hasn’t been any working Rollup solution that lets you deploy your existing Solidity smart contracts. So far, Rollup demos have relied on a lot of hand-coding and the barrier to entry has been huge.
Arbitrum Rollup is the first working solution that allows normal Solidity contracts to be deployed on Layer 2 Rollup chains. You can have the speed and scalability of Rollup now, with Arbitrum.
ETHDenver 2019
Three of our team members will be at ETHDenver this year: Harry Kalodner (co-founder and CTO), Ed Felten (co-founder and Chief Scientist), and Julien Tregoat (Software Engineer).
We’re all looking forward to helping teams become some of the first people to deploy fully functioning applications on Rollup!
If you have a smart contract you’d love to build, but it would be too expensive to deploy it on Ethereum, you can deploy it as an Arbitrum Rollup chain. Unlike other smart contract scaling solutions, Arbitrum keeps the same security as Ethereum, while massively bringing down costs. We can’t wait to see how developers harness this power to create the next generation of smart contracts!

Interested in building with us?
If you’re interested at deploying a Rollup-based application during the hackathon (or any time), here are some first steps you can take:
- Check out our previous Medium articles to learn more about how Arbitrum Rollup works.
- Read and download our code on Github.
- Look at our documentation for information about how to get started.
- Drop in on our Discord to ask questions and learn more.
Our team will be stationed at the Offchain Labs booth during the conference, so come find us with any questions you have.
We’re hiring, looking for developers and evangelists to join our New York-based team. Come join us in building the future of Layer 2, Rollup and beyond!
