Building a Supportive Community of Writers
In response to Coffee Challenge; Why I am a pro shout-out movement.

I started writing on Medium about six months ago. I was on an island by myself for many months, and Google was my best friend to help me navigate it.
I appreciated when people like Yana Bostongirl and others commented and gave me tips. Initially, I didn’t realize how important it was to build a community, and slowly it happened.
I found my tribe when I started writing for Know Thyself, Heal Thyself. Diana C. was nurturing and helpful, and I loved her prompts. I noticed how engaging the community was and enjoyed the comments I received on my articles.
I have met many people on the platform who are kind and supportive. I have to say that most of my interactions have been positive on Medium unless I’m writing a feminist piece. Women empowerment triggers lots of angry men who want to make nasty comments.
When I found Coffee Times and Winston, I loved his concept of building a community that supports writers by sharing each other's articles. I also like that he engages with other publications.
During my time on Medium, I read many articles that have resonated with me and helped me on my healing and writing excursion. Why wouldn’t I want to give others a shout-out if their pieces spoke to me? It’s just good karma. When we send out positivity and support, we get it back.
There is enough success for everyone in the world and on Medium. I don’t think one should feel obligated to reciprocate, but when another writer mentions an article of mine or claps for me, I want to do the same for them.
Because I interacted with other writers, I gained more followers, made more connections, and felt that I became part of a supportive, nurturing community.
I love that I am meeting people from all over the world, and I feel like it makes the world seem smaller. It helps us understand that we all have the same wants and needs. We all are similar in how we love, feel pain and disappointment regardless of our culture, race, religion, or the country we live in.
The Coffee Times movement has made me feel that we are all bigger than just writing on Medium. We are part of a community that wants to help each other and change the world with its positive words.
The shout-outs to other authors are my way of saying thank you for sharing your thoughts, experiences, and vulnerability with me. Thank you for helping me be a lifelong learner and grow by learning from you. When others comment on my pieces and share them, I am happy to make a difference in their lives. Let’s all support each other so we can be successful together!

Thank you to the writers that have supported, clapped, commented, shared, tweeted, and helped me on my journey. Some peeps I want to send a shout out to because their writing has spoken to me, and also, many here have been really supportive of me. I keep continuing on this writing path because you all inspire me. I wish I could sit down and have a cup of coffee with everyone!
