Building a Micro-SaaS From the Ground Up: Ideation
Our journey to building a new AI-focused SaaS
The Genesis of an Idea
Three years ago, my twin brother and I thought of a unique idea — a platform that could trade stocks for us automatically. By combining state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms and trading expertise, one can make a bot that can trade without human input. This idea resulted in the birth of our automated trading and investing platform — NexusTrade.
NexusTrade is an advanced, AI-powered, no-code platform that allows users to express, evaluate, and optimize trading strategies without requiring a coding background. Its flagship feature is an AI-powered chat. This isn’t an ordinary chatbot; users who speak with it can perform financial analysis of any company, create trading strategies, and launch backtests all without leaving the UI. With the versatility to do essentially any action that the user could think of, a thought blossomed in our heads — if we can do this for trading, what’s stopping us from extending this technology to other domains, like education or business process automation?
All of these ideas share something in common — a clever prompt engineer could easily make an app for each of these. However, the idea of “prompt engineering” is too complicated for the average person; a teacher isn’t going to care how it works; they just want an AI to draft their lesson plan for them. What if we could create a marketplace to sell different, customized AI Chat bots for differing use-cases? We could use it to improve the AI Chat on NexusTrade and also market it as its own SaaS product.
This revelation marks the genesis of a new venture — a Micro-SaaS platform, aimed at simplifying AI integration for every curious mind out there.
The spark ignited from a simple realization — GPT-Powered chat applications will become ubiquitous. From customer service to personalized tutoring, AI-driven chatbots have the capability to integrate themselves into the very fabric of society. However, if you’re a non-technical user, creating these intelligent assistants is extremely challenging. This barrier is exactly what we’re trying to solve.
The Vision: Generative AI As a Service
For the initial ideation phase, we bought the domain name GenAI-AAS.com. While we are not 100% sold on the name yet, the concept remains the same: GenAI-As-A-Service aims to replicate the ease and accessibility witnessed in NexusTrade but on a broader canvas. Instead of having a chatbot specifically for developing trading strategies and doing financial research, users can login and create customized “chatbots’’ for their use case in a simple, intuitive user interface. And when we say “chatbot”, we’re not talking about a simple customer support agent. Instead, we’re envisioning a sophisticated agent capable of automating complex processes using just natural language.
Embarking on the Journey
We began to dive into the existing platforms out there. There were a few that caught our eye, such as Dialogflow and Botsify. DialogFlow is a lifelike conversational AI made and supported by Google. This platform is aimed solely towards customer support and experiences. While Botsify seems closer to what we want to do, it still leans more towards automated conversations. To our relief, while there exists many tools that enable creation of chat bots easier, they fall short of allowing specialized solutions for complex tasks. Take NexusTrade for example: it currently just is not possible to use one of these existing platforms to create a solution as comprehensive and capable as Aurora: the AI Chat assistant behind NexusTrade. You may be able to start chats with potential customers using Botsify, but you will never be able to, for example, create complex JSON objects from plain English and integrate them across different services within your application landscape.
Therein lies our unique value proposition. We’re not just another chatbot service; we’re the architects of specialized AI-driven experiences. Our platform will transcend the commonplace ‘customer service’ and ‘FAQ’ bots, venturing into the realm of intricate tasks that have real-world applications: grading dozens of students’ papers at one time, giving personalized tutoring catering to your child’s weaknesses, enabling real-estate agents to find dozens of houses precisely to their clients’ needs: the possibilities are endless.
Another cornerstone of our offering is our commitment to user friendliness. We’re designing an intuitive user interface that will enable even non-tech savvy individuals to create an AI solution to their needs. Our very goal is to democratize the AI chatbot creation process, putting the power of AI in the hands of everyone, even those who’ve never written a line of code.
But we’re not stopping there. Envision a marketplace — a bazaar of AI possibilities — where users can buy, sell, or share customized AI chatbots tailored for a myriad of use-cases. This feature not only amplifies the versatility of our platform but also spawns an ecosystem for AI-driven solutions.
