Bubbly Smiles

The best smiles start in my soul

Message on my Dove today as I wrote this. Coincidence? I think not. (Author’s photo)

I’m taking up the challenge posed to me by my new Medium friend, Christopher Robin, and initiated by Michael Burg, MD’s prompt:

In the diverse world in which we live, full of people separated by language, culture, history and much more, do we all “smile … in the same language?”

I believe the simple answer is yes, we most certainly do.

And within the language of smiles, there are many different varieties, all with different feelings and meanings behind them. There are silly, playful grins. Tense and nervous smiles. There are smirks and sneers.

Mischievous smiles, smug smiles, and flirtatious smiles. Forced smiles and fake smiles.

Then there are the all-over body smiles like the ones Colbie Caillat sings about in this song. Give it a listen:

“It starts in my toes Makes me crinkle my nose Wherever it goes I always know You make me smile”

The smiles Colbie sings about are by far the most genuine. They encompass our entire body with feelings of warmth and love.

“You’ve got me feeling like a child now ’Cause every time I see your bubbly face I get the tingles in a silly place”

Smiles like these make us feel youthful. They remind us of the way kids often smile. With sparkly eyes, they grin from ear to ear. Sometimes kids smile so hard they wiggle. They jump up and down. Happiness oozes out of them.

“It starts in my soul And I lose all control”

These smiles have energy behind them. Aliveness. Spark. They bubble up from a place of pure joy within us.

They are the best smiles to give and receive. They are expressions of deep happiness and love. They lift our mood. And as my Dove chocolate reminded me today, they’re the quickest way to brighten a room.

“Every time you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing.”– Mother Teresa

I’m passing along a smile and prompting Elan Cassandra, Muhammad Nasrullah Khan, Em Unravelling, Charles Amemiya, Greg Peterson, and Lizzie Finn to share their take on this idea.

Say cheese! And tag. You’re it. :)
