Summary

David Meyers introduces Bubbletopia, a utopian world where everyday life is enhanced by bubble-based technology, from transportation to household appliances, offering a cheerful and allergen-free alternative to traditional products.

Abstract

In a world devoid of negativity, Bubbletopia emerges as a society where bubble technology permeates daily life, providing eco-friendly transportation in the form of Bubble-mobiles and innovative household items like bubble-signaling toasters. The narrative is inspired by comments on Jann Christoph von der Pütten's story and the call for more utopian tales by Jonathon Sawyer. David Meyers, the narrator, assures readers of the inclusivity of bubble products, even for those with allergies, thanks to a hypoallergenic soap blend. The story also introduces a therapeutic device called Can-o-Bubbles, designed to alleviate sadness. A fictional interaction between a customer, Steve, and a customer service representative, Susan, from Crafted Bubbles Incorporated, illustrates the ease of accessing these bubble-based products. The piece is part of Zane Dickens' šŸ’Æ Story Challenge, with more stories available in the author's Medium collection.

Inspired by a series of comments and replies I left on Jann Christoph von der Pütten’s story: Veni, Vidi, Inciampi — My Living Eulogy. I was also influenced by Jonathon Sawyer who made a comment (somewhere I forgot?) about the lack of utopian stories. So I hope this bubble story satisfies everyone.

David Meyers here! Long gone are the days of grief, sadness, depression, and negativity. Today, we welcome the new age of the bubble!

The Bubble-mobile is the latest and greatest in bubble-based transport. We’re not held back by dirty fossil fuels. Oh no! Our wonderful modes of transportation run off of a special mixture of soap and good honest H2O. It draws in air and then… BLAM OH! Bubbles eject from the exhaust tube as you’re propelled down the road!

But wait, there’s more! Picture this, you’re at home making toast but then it pops up and startles you. Not cool, dad-io. With our patented bubble technology your soft rise toaster will emit a gentle flow of bubbles to signal completion.

I know what you’re thinking! But David, what if I’m allergic to bubble soap? Don’t worry! With our special hypoallergenic blend of synthetic soap, you too can enjoy all the pleasures of our bubble-based products with none of the reactions. You can find our fantastic product on any supermarket shelf. Just look for the name: I Can’t Believe It’s Not Bubbles!

If you call now and order I’ll also throw in a free Can-o-Bubbles! Think you might be a little sad? Not with a Can-o-Bubbles! Just pop the top and watch with amazement as the bubbles simply float away with all your worries. You simply set it and forget it! Operators are on stand-by.

Steve clicked the TV off as a few bubbles ejected from the front of the remote. He scooped up his cellphone and began to dial. With each button pressed the device projected another barrage of bubbles into the air.

ā€œHello, this is Susan with Crafted Bubbles Incorporated. How may I help?ā€

ā€œI’m interested in some of your bubble products.ā€

ā€œWonderful! Let’s get you started.ā€
