Summary

A family took in a Border Collie named Bruce for what was supposed to be a two-week stay, but he ended up becoming a beloved permanent member of their household.

Abstract

Bruce the Border Collie was temporarily entrusted to a family by a friend who was moving and needed someone to care for him for two weeks. However, circumstances led to Bruce staying with the family, and he has been with them for nearly a year. Despite initial concerns about the breed's characteristics, such as intense herding instincts and destructive behavior when bored, Bruce has proven to be a joyful, smart, and loving pet. He enjoys playing fetch, going for walks, and cuddling, defying the breed's stereotypes. The family is grateful for Bruce's companionship, and his presence has enriched their lives.

Bruce the Border Collie

March Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “Pet People”

All I need is some sheep.

One of my youngest son’s friends was in the process of moving, asked if we could watch Bruce until she got settled, and she’d pick him up in two weeks. I was never sure why it would take two whole weeks, and for the most part I think I was conned into this one by my son because two weeks came, and for whatever reason, the friend couldn’t take the dog, so he stayed.

April will be a year since Bruce has been with us and he’s been nothing but a joy. All the things I read about his breed — intense herding instinct, destructive behavior if they get bored — gave me great pause, but he’s no problem at all.

I joke about him needing sheep because of the type of dog he is, but mainly he thinks he’s a lap dog. He’s super smart and loving, loves to play fetch, go for walks, and cuddle. Lots of cuddling!
