Bruce Springsteen Isn’t As Good As A Lot Of People Say

He has some great songs, but a lot of his music is unlistenable

As some of you may know, I went into this year with a plan to listen to and review all of Bruce Springsteen’s albums this year. I’d previously heard only 2 or 3 of them in their entirety, so I was looking forward to discovering a lot of great music from Bruce this year.

It started out well. I loved his first four albums, especially Born To Run. However, whenever I sit down to listen to his fifth album, The River, I struggle while listening to it. In fact, I can barely get even three songs into it without wanting to turn it off.

I hate to be cruel, but most of it is garbage. Songs like “Hungry Heart” and “Out In The Street” may be popular, but that doesn’t mean they’re any good. Fungus is a popular thing too, but that doesn’t mean I want to spend a lot of time around it.

I think the only way I could really enjoy Bruce Springsteen’s The River album is if all of the copies of it in the world were taken away and dropped into an actual river. No, on second thought, an ocean might be better. Then there would be less of a chance of them rising back up to the surface. I’d never have to hear anything from the album again and I’d be much, much happier.

I was hoping that The River album was a rare fluke and his music got better after it, so I listened to more. I jumped around through Springsteen’s later catalog of recordings, but none of what I heard was any better than what’s on The River — except for a few songs like “Dancing In The Dark,” “Glory Days,” and “Pink Houses.”

Bruce Springsteen put out some great music in the 1970s, but he seemed to hit his peak around 1978 — and then went deeply downhill after that.

My apologies to my friends like Paul Combs, Alex Markham, Mark Holburn, and Kevin Alexander, who are all fans of Bruce Springsteen, but I’m done with Bruce. Maybe I’ll listen to his early albums again someday, but right now I’m burnt out on him and his very overrated music.

Bruce Springsteen may have been to “Born To Run,” but maybe I was “Born to Run” too — far, far away from him.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This article is being published at 12 A.M. on April 1, 2022. So, the last thing I’m going to say about all of this is: APRIL FOOLS!!!

I was joking and didn’t mean any of the bad things I said above.

Bruce Springsteen is an incredible talent and I love his music!!!

In fact, I’m currently listening to The River album for my first time and I think it’s absolutely fantastic. I’ll be reviewing it soon. At this point, I think I’ll be giving it at least four stars.
