Broken Promises
Poetry

You told me I was perfect. Then you pointed out all my imperfections. You told me I was beautiful. Then you showed me all of my flaws. You told me that my smile lit up a room. Then you found a way to remove it. You told me that I shined. Then you asked me to dim my light. You told me that people gravitated towards me. Then you demanded I not be so magnetic. You told me I was intelligent. Then you made me feel ignorant. You told me that I was strong. Then you tried to debilitate me. You told me that other people were jealous and unkind to me. So you assisted in removing them from my life. You told me that you would treat me better than they did. Then you acted crueler to me than anyone, ever. You told me you would heal my wounds. Then you sliced open my scars. You told me to reveal myself to you. Then you stole my soul. You told me you would love me. Then you unveiled the ice in your heart. You told me a lot of things, and I believed them all. Then I realized that you just wanted to shatter me. You broke your promises; you broke me. Then you asked me where I went?
Enjoy this beautiful song by Christina Perri , which echoes a similar sentiment as my writing above.
