I am a huge fan of The Great British Baking Show, starring Paul Hollywood (plus 3 others who change season to season). Whenever I’m home alone, that’s my binge-watching of choice. I’ve watched the holiday specials. I’ve gone back and re-watched seasons I’ve already watched.

So I was very excited to receive Paul Hollywood’s How To Bake for Christmas. Until I started reading it.

It’s in British! I can’t understand half of what he’s talking about.

What’s Caster Sugar? (Halfway between granulated and confectioner’s sugar.) What’s double cream? (Heavy cream.) Sultanas? (Golden raisins.) Christmas Cake? (Fruitcake.)

Never mind that the measurements are all metric. They helpfully convert the stove settings to gas (which is apparently numbered 1–7, with no mention of temperature at all). But if your stove is Fahrenheit, you’re out of luck.

Thank goodness for Google!
