Information and Technology Upgrade!

Mr. Ross Douthat of the NYTimes has an opinion about what Truth consists of, and woke, isn’t it.

What is ‘woke’ anyway? It is a word that has become unclear at this time and is entirely subject to political machinations and polarization.

Face it, our entire society in the USA, Europe, and the world is struggling with the evolution of what we know, what we will accept as information or ‘true’’. We have always struggled to ascertain what is true, as our knowledge and technology have grown from 2 million years ago until this very moment. So, in truth (LOL) we have always struggled with what is true and what isn’t. We will do this forever if we keep growing as the environment does. I for one believe we will keep going.

Bring it!

The real ‘truth’ about the problem AI presents to the human race is not what it presents as true about us and the world in any given moment, because as noted, what is known about that is always growing and changing. We can use AI to track what we accept as truth in any given moment by any given set of people, and sure we should compare output on the same query across Generative AI and LLMs (a type of AI) always — always. Comparisons mean something.

But what is true about AI that is threatening to humans and the world

if it is not what we think is true?

The truth about AI and computers is that they are advanced data analysis machines that require immense amounts of hardware obtained from limited Earth resources and sustained by limited Earth water and electricity resources. This ‘fact’ means that we, as AI toolmakers and users, are doing unacceptable amounts of damage to this planet already. Can you say, limited resource extraction? The goals of men like Mr. Altman (a Microsoft ally) and all AI and computer producers are to grow as information grows — which is always. This growth must be worked with intelligently in terms of technology advancements in AI and computers, to avoid a form of Earth destruction we do not want. We will have to deal with this threat and prevent it starting now. You can read about this in the journal, Nature if you wish to know what is truly threatening us where AI is concerned.

So, in very simple words: we need to advance the technology that produces AI for humans to use, as we will always be advancing what we know, and we will always need to track what we think we know. Thus like us, AI will also, always grow.
