Bridge of Sighs
Poetry by Keira Fulton-Lees

Isolated within the danger The laughter has gone to bed Now faint as ghostly strangers A respite but for to dread Fulfillment of an omen Out of place, I must await
A distant sound slips silent A reminder of my fate My life was but an island Far off cries, the unheard stay The future has been stolen Past four thirty, it’s too late
I can’t redo the blunders I am left to self-explain The future left asunder Upon a thread, time will break Utterances of condolence But one last walk of which to make
In tales that won’t be spoken I’m still asking ever, “Why” As the last of days unfolded Prayers to God to leave behind Within my final moments I’m upon the Bridge of Sighs
