Breathing New Life Into Old Works

Edgar Allen Poe like you’ve never heard him before

In 1664, the Bubonic Plague closed Cambridge University much as COVID has closed so much of our world. With all the time that Professor Isaac Newton had on his hands, he developed calculus.

The cost to the people alive in 2020 — from both COVID-19 itself as well as the economic fallout — is immeasurable. Part of how I cope with this reality is to think of what treasures we will leave for future generations.

One such treasure that I’ll highlight today comes from a former schoolteacher named Fred Eder.

True, his work may not on its own be as revolutionary as calculus. But when you listen to the stories that he breathes new life into using his talents at sound design, you’ll quickly hear that he’s onto something. Perhaps the work he does will inspire you to take action and leave behind your own treasure.

In honor of the season, Fred’s latest reading is of Edgar Allen Poe’s Tell Tale Heart.

His work on a depressingly humorous excerpt from Mark Twain’s Huckleberry Finn titled “You Call This A Gov’ment??” couldn’t be more fitting to the atmosphere of today’s political rants.
