Breastplate of Valour
No war can be fought under a peaceful blue sky
The Soldiers raced through the swamps and grasslands,
Trained to move like lightning over water and sands.
Outlines of trees threw silhouettes onto the dark sky,
While the moon threw shadows from on high.
The soldiers crept silently under the pale moonlight,
They moved stealthily with rifles drawn in ultraviolet light.
There were no enemies they could spot on sight,
They were armed and ready for a bloody fight.
Suddenly, the sound of rapid shots was heard,
Followed by the sound of a scared flapping bird.
A sniper was hiding in the tall tree,
He peered to see what he could see.
The soldier spotted the figure in the tree,
A flash of metal glinted in the dark sky,
He fired a shot and the sniper fell from on high.
All around him soldiers were falling to the ground,
This was to be their unholy battleground.
He kept shooting at the dark merchants of death in the night,
There were too many of them for his platoon to fight.
They were not taking prisoners today,
It was a killing night in the month of May.
The soldier knew that this was the last battle he would fight,
He shot as many of the enemy as he could with inhuman might.
The whole platoon died on the wet swamplands that day,
Their families mourned them with flowers and prayer.
There was no breastplate of armour for the soldiers that day,
But, they fought to protect their country and cause anyway,
As their breastplate of valor was always to stay.
The Unknown Soldier loses his life, with a resounding battle cry,
Till there comes a day when the world gives peace a try,
When no war will be fought under a peaceful blue sky.
