Breaking up with sugar and gaining a new lover: How I Lost 6 kg and My Sweet Tooth in Four Months And Gained New Lovers— Broccoli and Carrots!

My fat has gone — well some
So… I lost 6 kg in three months! And no, I didn’t starve myself or spend hours at the gym. Instead, I adopted a few simple lifestyle changes that helped me get healthier and feel better about myself.
Let’s fast- No
First of all, I tried intermittent fasting. And by “intermittent fasting”, I mean I didn’t eat anything until after 9 AM the next day. I would have my last evening meal, sleep and then not eat until after 9 am the next day. Not a long fast, I know, but it worked for me. Some people will say my fasting was not fast, but if my gut has a 12-hour plus without food, that’s enough. Plus, I’m really feeling the benefits. My big game changer was using an app to track what I ate! I was amazed at some of my food’s calories, fats and sugar! The app was a lifesaver.
Let’s walk — Yes!
I also ensured I walked at least 7k steps a day. Some days I did 13k, and others hardly could move, but generally, I tried to keep to 7k, But if one day I could only do 2k as I did not leave the house, I did not beat myself up about it.
Next, I cut out all “free sugar”.
This wasn’t easy, but I kept it up for one month. I realized that I was consuming a lot of sugar in my diet, which was not only contributing to my weight gain but also causing me to have mood swings and bad skin.
I also cooked fresh food, or rather my partner did! We made sure to include plenty of fruits and vegetables in our meals, and we also tried to incorporate more protein into our diet broccoli and carrots became a good friends of mine!
Additionally, cooking fresh helped us control our food and avoid processed foods.
I hit the gym three times a week, but sometimes I couldn’t make it. When that happened, I didn’t beat myself up about it.
I tried to find other ways to stay active, such as walking or doing strength training at home. Because let’s face it, someday the gym seems like the enemy!
I also reduced my portion size. Why do we let others decide how much we should eat? I decided to take control of my portion size. It wasn’t easy initially, but I got used to eating smaller portions and feeling full over time.
To ensure I ate the right amount, I purchased a scale to weigh out what I ate, as we often don’t know. This helped me be more mindful of what I put into my body and ensure I wasn’t overeating.
Lastly, I cut out all sugary drinks. Why drink calories when you can drink water instead? I hate water, to be honest, so this was hard for me. But I am still trying, even though I would prefer a soda!
I have tried things like cucumber water and kombucha to make it more interesting.
So there you have it, friends. With a little bit of dedication and consistency, you, too, can adopt a healthier lifestyle. And who knows, you might lose a few kilos along the way.
“Now aren’t you feeling happy and healthier? Okay, well, I tried! Don’t worry if you’re not feeling it yet.
You may need a few more servings of broccoli before you start glowing like a radiant health guru. Or maybe you need a good nap. Whatever it takes, don’t give up on your health journey. You got this!”
