Breaking News: Scott L. Steward Resigns as Leader of YEC Youth Group at Christ Universal Temple

Chicago, IL — Scott L. Steward, a community pillar and Founder of Genius Lab, Inc., has officially announced his resignation as the leader of the Youth Expressing Christ (YEC) group at Christ Universal Temple. The announcement was made in a formal email addressed to Reverend Gaylon McDowell. Steward led the youth group for grades 6 to 12, which is notably the same organization he participated in as a youth and once served as its president.
In the wake of the pandemic and the untimely passing of YEC’s former male leader, Mr. Floyd McGee, the group was left with a significant leadership gap. Steward was considered an ideal choice to fill the void and pick up where McGee left off.
In the email, Steward expressed his gratitude for the experience and acknowledged the teachings he received from Reverend McDowell. “Your insights into team and leadership have been enlightening,” wrote Steward, who has served the youth of Chicago through various community programs since July 2021.
But perhaps most striking was Steward’s transparent admission of his limitations within the context of the organization’s mission. Quoting Steward: “Great leaders must put their egos aside and do everything in their power to maintain the mission, vision, and integrity of any organization they lead. I recognize that I am not currently equipped with the necessary understanding of UFBL theology to do justice to this role.”
Scott L. Steward’s last day as a youth leader will be Sunday, October 29, 2023. The news has left the community both surprised and respectful of his decision. “We are sad to see Scott go, but we also admire his honesty and commitment to integrity,” said a long-time member of the Christ Universal Temple.
At the time of this announcement, it is unclear if there will be a search for Steward’s successor. Christ Universal Temple is confident that the youth ministry will “continue to flourish in a manner that is pleasing to God,” as Steward put it in his resignation email.
This news marks a pivotal moment for Christ Universal Temple and serves as a reminder of the importance of aligned leadership in the spiritual and community spheres.
