Breaking a Sweat — Joys of Menopause
Feeling a little warm!

I’ve just broken into a random sweat caused by nothing obvious, and chucked my cardigan on the floor to try to cool off. This happens repeatedly, every evening when I’m trying to relax in front of the TV. It happens in the daytime too but is more often caused by a hot drink in the day, so it’s less random.
We turned the heating off weeks ago. The house is cold. There really is no need for me to sweat. At least the cooling process is easy because the house is cold. Imagine how awful this must be in a heatwave!
I’ll try some supplements soon — see if a bit of black cohosh calms this down. I can’t bear the thought of this happening when it’s 30 degrees centigrade outside and a similar temperature inside, so I can’t cool off.
I started to get night sweats recently too. I thought I was getting away with an easy menopause — a few hot flushes, but nothing else. Apparently not. After turning the heating off and cutting bedclothes down to a minimum, I was left with cold feet. It’s a difficult balance, trying to minimize bedclothing so you don’t break into a sweat, but then not end up cold!
Ideally, I could do with about 10 showers a day.
It’s not a bad menopause, though. I’m sweating a lot, but at the moment, I’m able to cool off quickly. There is no way I would consider HRT, and I don’t think I need to, because this is manageable.
So far, my experience is pretty lame compared to some women struggling through menopause. But some of the weird reactions can include:
- Breathlessness
- Acid reflux
- Sleep disturbances
- Mood changes/fluctuations
- Itching
- Weak bladder
- Cognitive problems, lack of focus
- Hair loss
- Weight gain
Oooh. Did that say acid reflux? I have experienced that in recent times.
