Breakfast in the Morning
Vic turned over the omelette that she had made. She had chopped ramps (her sister Violet would have been pleased to know she was cooking with them), leeks, chives, and cheese. Violet’s holdout when Vic wanted to get rid of Kevin had been that he did like cooking, and she felt that that said a lot about a person.
“Not in this case,” Vic had assured her sister she remembered as she sealed the omelette. She had wanted to hold out, but he had made it very hard for her – and for Gen at that. But she sighed as she plated the omelettes.
He had held her all night, she had not had a chance to leave. She was in his kitchen and was not wearing one of his shirts, but her own dress that was rumpled because they had stepped on it on the way to his bed.
As predicted, he got up when she put his plate down on the counter. Like when they had been together. He did like to cook, but she cooked the most between them. He kissed her forehead before he took a bite of the omelette and moaned softly as he did. Vic took a bite of it herself from his plate, and moaned softly herself. It was delicious. Probably when she had spent time with her sister outside of New York, she resurrected her culinary skills. Her lament at Violet’s had been like her moaning over the omelette. She had talked about how hard it had been knowing Kevin had gone to Gen and she had not seen him.
Now she adjusted her dress, and when Kevin moved in to kiss her, Gen picked up her bag. He took her arm – not roughly – but she looked up at him.
“You’re leaving?” he said softly and the sound of his voice moved through her entire body and made her tremble a bit.
“Yeah, I gotta go…” she said, not looking at him and walking away. She walked to the door quickly and did not look back at him.
The sound of her heels was deafening, as the pad of his feet behind her was nonexistent. Gen had seen him, she did not need anything more she thought as she tried to move a bit of omelette from between her teeth.
