Bread

You rose to meet me; brought me down gently

I didn’t fall, or split, or even crack; I leapt and let you catch me with your words.

You rose to meet me; brought me down gently, onto a thick, soft, slice of bread spread with all the things that make my heart sing.

Bread that makes my belly swell and hurt like hell. I still want more.

That hungry, aching, dissatisfied greed; when only the thing you want, but shouldn’t have, can fill you up.

In the end, I still sank — hard and fast for you.

There was too much to waste, too much to lose. I’m jealous and impatient, so… I didn’t leave it long enough to prove.
