Breaching Vastness

A Poem of a Whale and a Moment of Awe

Some experiences in life can never be recreated,

like being enveloped in awe in that moment when a breaching whale leaves the silvered sea, leaping into the realm of sky and pinkening air and we, two humans, felt so small amidst the pulsation of the vastness of it all that we forgot to breath

until that whale came crashing down,

splashing her weight in water, an infinite number of crystalline droplets, high into the slant of sunlight before she disappeared beneath the churning chaos.

And all around us, the waves melted into the jungle, frosted fingers of foam mingling with sun-bleached sand, remnants of oceanic bones finding life once more on the sugared shore shifting beneath our feet, our toes sinking deeply into the remnants of time.

And we knew that this moment, this encapsulation of breath and wonder, could never be repeated.
