Both Worlds

There is the world we want and the world we have together

There is the world we want and the world we have together

We think that we are moving one way but we move on a tether

Like barges coming into a bay that struggle against the tide

We don’t recognise our limitations, no recognition of what’s outside

How many of us think we live in one world, but don’t

Have paths before us with clear markers, open doors, but won’t

We close our eyes and hope for the best, let the current do the rest

When what we need is discipline to make us try our best

I have lived in many worlds, worn many hats and different suits,

Straddled rivers, climbed on trees, been on my knees, clung to the roots

I’ve seen the best and the worst in this life’s journey I have rehearsed

I have been both alone and together and felt both blessed and cursed

Each morning now I promise myself if I must live in two worlds apart

That I will find the strength and wisdom, if I fall, to return to start

Two thoughts, two paths, two ways of living, two visions, invite us all

Let us learn to recognise the better path and embrace the better call

Let us learn to let others seek their own star, and accept them as they are.
