Book Review: Playing Famous Violin Music with Erhu(音樂書介紹：二胡與小提琴名曲)
In the previous articles, I have introduced some western music played beautifully by erhu accompanied by piano. Some erhu lovers ask me if there are some music scores of these music. Today I would like to introduce one book bought from Taobao: playing famous violin music with erhu(二胡與小提琴名曲).
This book consists of 10 well-known violin pieces with erhu scores and the scores of the piano accompaniment. As the titles are written in Chinese, I list their English names in the following:
- Schbert’s Serenade
- Tchaikovsky’s Melodie
- Massenet’s Meditation
- C. Porumbescu’s Ballada
- Monti’s Czardas
- Bach’s Violin Concerto in A minor First Movement
- Heifetz’s Hora Staccato
- Paganini’s Op. 11
- Sarasate’s Zigeunerweisen
- Sarasate’s Carmen Fantasy
In the scores of piano and erhu, the notes are and bars are not too close. Moreover, the fingering and bowing directions are very clear so they are easy to understand. Hence, the scores are easy to read. To play the music beautifully, I suggest the erhu players sing the music first and practise it frequently. Then listen to the original versions of the music so that you can get the idea of appropriate articulation and phrasing. Once you can play it at ease, practise it with the piano accompaniment and the music should be beautiful enough for performance!
