DIY

BOO!

A cheap & easy “scare”! 👻

How cute are these???

As a daycare provider, I was always looking for easy crafts that didn’t cost an arm & a leg. This one was one of my biggest hits!

To make your ghost lights, you’ll need the following:

  • Elmer’s Glue
  • A clean jar (usually a baby food jar, but any jar will do)
  • A paint brush and cup or small bowl
  • White tissue paper & scissors
  • Googly eyes & hot glue (optional)
  • Sharpie permanent marker (black)
  • Battery operated tea light candle
Supplies needed

First, cut up a sheet of tissue paper into a bunch of squares. The squares do not have to be even, and one sheet should be plenty.

Next, pour some glue into your cup/bowl and use your paintbrush to “paint” the glue onto you jar. Do this in sections and add the squares to the glue. Paint a little of glue on top of each square to secure it to the jar.

Do this until the jar is covered, and allow it to dry for a couple of hours.

Here’s the fun part: once the glue is dry, you can use some hot glue and secure a couple of google eyes on your ghost. I, unfortunately, had none on hand. Instead, I drew on the eyes with eyelashes (because, why not) and drew a mouth with a Sharpie.

I wasn’t satisfied with it just yet, so I decided to add some twine and a couple of flowers to my pretty ghost. I secured both with some hot glue.

I think she enjoys being “extra” !

The final step is to add a battery operated tea light candle. I put mine on top of a touch light on my desk and, I must say, she came out adorable!

Best of all, all the supplies can be picked up at the Dollar Tree. It’s cheap, easy, and super cute! If you’re doing this with little ones, they will absolutely LOVE using Elmer’s glue as paint and decorating their own ghost to take home.

Safety note: while there are cool temp hot glue guns available, you can also use a thicker craft glue like Aleene’s Tacky Glue instead of hot glue if kids want to stick the googly eyes on by themselves.

I hope you try this, and I hope you enjoy it! Happy Haunting! 😁❤👻
