blurring our bodies
free verse poetry

when the sun falls down
silhouettes become shadows curtains become walls
projections behind blinds we blend and become
blurring our bodies on unmade beds
we grip broken promises shatter affections
we lay down and get up without our feelings
remaining distant enough to know
one other
Background context:
There’s something so vulnerable about intimacy.
Sex is such a personal experience.
I’ve always found it tragic how people can lay down with one another and either one or both of us can get back up without our feelings. I’ve never understood that. I’ve come close but even then there was still some humanity left in me to feel… something.
This poem captures the chaotic agreement between bodies, when there’s no hope for anything but a moment to enjoy because that’s all there will ever be between them. I’m taking you into the center of that agreement; and showing you the mechanics behind that type of negotiation.
From my perspective.
