Blue Diamond
“No matter if everybody else be wrong, you, be right.” ~My Momma

Poetry Playground Writing Prompt #11: It’s Personal
This week Jonny Masters offers us a prompt “focusing on writing poetry for someone else.”
A brief look into the life of My “Blue Diamond”, a true gemstone.
Life can strengthen us and make us stand upright. It can pressure us and cause us to develop into stones, that shine brilliantly, like gemstones. This woman saw many tribulations yet she endured, conquered, achieved, and succeeded from a tin-top house in the rural into her own home in one of the newest home-owners sections in the nearby city. She served many generously and lived righteously and quite well until her time here ended. I revere her today, one day after — what would have been — her 103rd birthday. With sincere gratitude, I humbly edify her through this offering.
Yesterday was her birthday, she would have been one hundred and three.
The honor of celebrating the day she was born— for us all — came with glee.
We’d travel from other states to be at her home grateful and diligently.
She’d hide surprised delight with light hugs and quick kisses on our cheeks.
Momma was a gracious woman, poised, pretty, and always well-dressed.
As a tailor, singer, and artist she was great, but her cooking was the best!
People respected her, though kind and humble — she took nobody’s mess.
Listening patiently, she would offer comforting advice for life’s tests.
Exhibited pride in herself, and rightfully accepted compliments with grace.
All our accomplishments, she encouraged, but told us this to our face,
“Finish school and get a job, or get married, but get your own place —
Try to enjoy your life, treat people right, don’t lie, or live in disgrace.”
She held our hearts in her hands, hoping to appease all her demands.
And yes she showed favor to some of us, but we could all understand,
Some of us were stubborn, but she could make any one of us feel grand.
Nothing was too big or small when needed she was there to hold our hand.
She was eighty-nine years old when she silently departed to a cosmic home
Sifting ageless memories gleaning all the happy years, now long gone
I think she was a Blue Diamond, an exquisite precious living gemstone.
I miss her wisdom, love, and courage. Momma was a true phenomenon.
“Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.” ~ Proverbs 31:10–31
