Blister Perfect

November Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “Collecting Smiles"

A Blister Worth a Thousand Words.

You never realize how hard it is to take a picture of a blister on the top of your right thumb with your left hand until you’re mid-flash.

Nevertheless, the words running through my mind when I looked down at my thumb tonight after jamming for hours with my dad were,

“Huh! I’m collecting smiles.”

I’m not one for using a guitar pick. I like to feel the buttery strings between my fingers. And it’s no surprise how quickly a blister developed (after a few soul-shattering solos, of course) since it had been a while since I sat down and jammed with my dad.

I’m guilty of being 'too busy' lately to slow down and realize that there are more important things in life than making money so I can move out. (Still, it remains a priority), but I’m a firm believer in connecting with people I care about.

Even if some days all I want to do is isolate myself in my room, listen to instrumental piano music on Spotify, and write in my journal.

With that said, I know how overwhelming this life can be. I know how depressing and dreary circumstances can feel. And I hope you find a way through them. I hope you find a way to collect smiles again for your and your family’s sake.

I’m not getting any younger, and neither are my parents. Some days, it’s hard to be social when I’m feeling down and caught up in my head about having my own space.

The truth is, I won’t always be able to play the guitar with my dad in the afternoon or drink a cup of coffee with my mom in the morning.

I seized the day and collected so many smiles it gave me a blister.

Thank you for reading. Love on ya! ❤
