Blessings in the disguise. An invitation for Invention and Innovation

Lockdown, and Seclusion means more personal time and an invitation for invention and innovation: what could we gain?

In the previous blog of this series, I talked about how we have got better air quality and reduced air pollution, thanks to the lockdown.

In this blogs, I will talk about one of those positive aspects. And that would be about innovation and invention. I will highlight, how people in thee past have used such time to come up with some of the inventions and innovations thereby setting examples for us to follow. In an another post, I have earlier talked about how the world would look like after covid-19.

Innovation

Do you know that all master pieces were created during times of isolation, and meditation and these include but not limited to 3 novels of the notorious poet Shakespeare. Also many artists and painters have created their master pieces during these times of slef isolation. Perhaps there reason was not corona but something else for which we niether have time nor a need to go into detail.

This is a call for all of you to utilize the time during lockdown, working from home to finish all of your pending work, something that you have always wanted to do (writing a book, publishing something etc) This is the time for it….Just do it

Necessity is the mother of Invention. However, but now we could say that Lockdown is the father of Invention and Innovation!!!!

in 1664, the plague somewhat similar to recent Covid-19 took many lives, however newton would describe that period for him as the most intellectually productive period of his life. For more details on his innovation during that year see [1] for more details.

This crisis has certainly lead to ingenutiy at scale. here is one example where people from all walks of life started creating and sewing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for medical and health staff. Several low cost ventilators have been built during this time including in developing countries. Many others have launched initiatives to help people, amd serve them in different ways to improve and keep their mental health.

One of the invention coming out of Wales, was a new ventilator. Other examples include hands pull free door. I think we have to wait for many others as they are still in the background and they would need and take some more time before they could surface in the headline news.

AI is being used in many respects to not only analyse the pandemic data, figure out the reasons ofr the wide spread of the outbreak among others, but also to help in preparing the vaccine or some sort of remedy. It is also being used to measure temprature and send an alert if it rises for a fever etc.

You might think that this post is relatively late. However, I wanted to ensure that I practice what I preach:

During this lockdown, I was able to utilize the long weekends to write a couple of chapters for my upcoming book on AI Strategy. So for those, interested in AI and especially sitting at decision making benches, sit back and watch out for the announcement of the book.

Last but not least, please do share your positives: any invention or innovation that you have done, even if it was something that you lacked the time for, or something that you have always wanted to do, but never managed the time for it in.

Write it in the comments to this story.

What were your positives during this lock down, what did you achieve etc? I am looking forward to learn from your experience sharing.

Let’s play our part. Let’s invent and be innovative, let’s use our time to the bets of our abilities.
