Summary

In a tale from the ImmorTales universe, Jude, a local doctor with a secret mythological identity, treats her husband Coen's flu with a placebo concoction, showcasing her practical and mythical sides.

Abstract

The story "Blender Magic" from the ImmorTales series features Jude, a doctor on an island plagued by flu, who uses her knowledge to create a placebo medicine. Her husband, Coen, is among the afflicted and, despite his initial reluctance, quickly recovers after taking Jude's blend of oranges, onions, and cabbage. The narrative reveals that both Jude and Coen are mythological creatures, hinting at their fantastical nature in other stories within the same universe. The placebo effect of Jude's concoction underscores the power of belief in healing, even in a world inhabited by mythological beings.

Opinions

  • The author implies that belief and perception can significantly influence health outcomes, as seen with Coen's swift recovery after taking Jude's placebo medicine.
  • Jude's internal thought ("Such a baby") suggests a playful dynamic between her and Coen, reflecting a light-hearted take on the otherwise serious situation of an illness outbreak.
  • The story subtly critiques the overemphasis on medication by highlighting the effectiveness of a placebo, challenging the necessity of actual medicine for every ailment.
  • By embedding the story within the ImmorTales world, the author invites readers to suspend disbelief and consider the broader context of mythological elements in healing and daily life.
  • The narrative encourages the reader to question the true nature of Jude's "blender magic," whether it's her practical knowledge as a doctor or her mythological abilities, or a blend of both.

The island became plagued with the flu. Jude, being the local doctor, heard all the moans and groans. None worse than her husband. She whipped out her blade, and chopping away, made a batch of medicine with blender magic. “Just kill me…” Such a baby. Coen took the liquid drug from her hand and threw it down his throat. He screwed up his nose. “Damn.” In hours he felt better, bouncing off the walls. Jude felt like crap. “Let me get you some medicine.” Her mouth twitched, and she shook her head. “I just need to rest.” Her concoction of oranges, onions, and cabbage was 100% placebo.

Note: There are no fantastical elements in this story, but The ImmorTales world is fantasy and home to all sorts of mythological creatures. Coen and Jude splash their tails in other stories, see below.
