Black Santa & POC Santa Is STUPID!
Yep! I Said, And YOU ALL KNOW IT'S TRUE
The idea of Santa being black never made sense to me, and I am a black MAN. Hell, the concept of Santa never made sense to me.
I knew back when I was six years old that Santa visiting ALL houses around the world in one night made NO DAMN SENSE.
And it made no sense for several reasons.
- How did he get around that fast? He was fat! And the fat people I saw in my life could barely go up a flight of steps. (I’m not knocking fat people or shaming them, this was my PERSPECTIVE as a 6-year-old.) “Suspect #1 — Something is not adding up here.”
- I lived in a basement apartment. We had no chimney; how was he getting in??? I saw all the movies of him coming down chimneys, so how the hell did he get into my family's basement apartment???? HUH?! This was the second sign. "Suspect # 2 — Something is not adding up here."
- I was not a good kid. I lied, stole, and kissed many girls (Yes, at 6). I was naughty, but I still got gifts. Hmmm. This seemed suspect to me. “1 suspect + 1 suspect + 1 suspect= Hmmmmm”
- I knew at this age that Africa was poor, and I always thought, if I were born on that continent, I would wish for no more poverty. So I thought those kids were either silly for not wishing for no poverty or that this was just a scheme, a lie. And because I was quite aware of myself at the age, I knew why people lied. So I saw through the whole machination. 1 suspect + 1 suspect + 1 suspect + 1 suspect= “This is a lie. But mothers can't lie to their kids, but she did. What else was she lying about?" Mom: "Time to go to church and pray to god that we have a good week." Me: “Hmmmmmmm. Is god real?”
This aside, I also found the idea of Santa being black to be stupid.
We all know Santa is white and why that is even an issue is beyond me.
How do we know that Santa is and was not black?
We know that Santa isn't black and for the main reason that…we get gifts on time.

Santa Claus was based on this white Christian dude, Saint Nicholas, who gave gifts to kids.
This whole idea of making Santa Black, Asian, Hispanic, or strawberry (I identify as a strawberry, a chocolate-covered strawberry, so there 🍫🍓 😜) is just silly.

Me: “Then what about the white dude who wants to wear dreadlocks?”

This is what makes me think this whole Black Santa nonsense is stupid.
POC taking on Eurocentric ideas and cultures is considered representation and inclusivity, but when a white person takes on another culture's ideas or style, it is considered cultural appropriation.
Think about that.
