Black History Month: ‘Black Resistance’

Today marks the first day of February and Black History Month.

Each year, there’s a different theme to honor Black History Month — Black Resistance is this year’s theme!

Black Resistance isn’t a new concept — It’s found in Black Americans activism:

It should be understood as an act of empowerment.

There are conversations around who gets to talk about race and how they get to talk about it, which doesn’t include Black Americans. Therefore, it’s only fitting that this year’s theme is Black Resistance because there’s a politically charged environment around race.

Black History Month is not only about honoring Black contributions and their sacrifices:
