Summary

Brett Jenae Tomlin invites Medium users to participate in the "BJ's This or That New Year's Challenge," a writing game designed to engage the community and showcase individual writing styles through a series of 20 lighthearted "This or That" questions.

Abstract

The "BJ's This or That New Year's Edition" is a playful writing challenge initiated by Brett Jenae Tomlin, aimed at fostering community engagement on Medium. Participants are encouraged to answer 20 binary questions, ranging from personal preferences to writing styles, and publish their responses in an article tagging Tomlin and the original challenge post. This interactive game serves as an alternative to traditional "About Me" articles, allowing writers to introduce themselves in a more engaging manner. The challenge also hints at the potential for monetary rewards and emphasizes the importance of community growth and interaction within the Medium platform.

  • There is an underlying pride in the challenge's popularity and a hopeful expectation for its continued success and growth.

BJ’s This or That Challenge: New Year’s Edition

Raise a glass to the next ToT challenge

Ring, ring, ring… Who’s there? Oh, it’s just my ToT challengers, ringing in the new year and busting down my door for another chance to play what I’d like to think is the new Medium sensation: the writing (and drinking) game, BJ’s This or That.

***Shameful Plug: It’s also the name of my new pub, check it out here.

Did you think I’d leave you alone for a whole month before I brought back a bit of the ToT-ness? I think not. It’s the new year, a time of rebirth and new habits and …yada, yada, yada…

Forget all that. You know what time it really is?

It’s ToT-friggin-thirty, y’all. And I can say y’all because I live in Texas.

It’s time for us to all freeze up under the strain of our best feet kicking forward and go back to our cozy place, sit in front of our technology of choice, and have a few laughs with our Medium bros and gal pals over some tasteful (or not-so-tasteful) queries.

December was immense for BJ’s ToT.

We gathered. We wrote. We got to know each other. We invited our besties to play along. We made a bit of that cash money on the way down the ToT rabbit hole. What do you all say we all do it again?

For those of you who didn’t do the last ToT prompt, here’s how to play:

  1. Copy and paste this list of questions into an article entitled something like: “BJ’s This or That New Year’s Challenge”.
  2. Answer all 20 questions. Try to pick just one! Don’t be that person who chooses the hideous answers of “neither” or “both”.
  3. Publish the article. Please tag me — Brett Jenae Tomlin, the @ symbol then “theanxiousenthusiast” — AND this article so I can find your submission and so others who want to play will know how to play along! (Great, but optional: Save it to your Reading List.)

**Note: ToT challenges have all of the fixings for being great pinned articles that show your readers a little bit of your writing style while introducing yourself. About Me articles are so last year. Play ToT instead!

Let’s play…
