TRAVEL HUMOR

Bitten by the Travel Bug? Find Out What This Means for You.

What kind of traveler will you be?

Do you long to get out and travel the globe, take in the sights, and hob-nob with the locals? Do you miss being on the road? If you said yes, then congratulations — you have been bitten by the travel bug.

It’s a heady sensation.

Once this bug takes hold, you get a certain feeling that courses through your veins, and it is almost impossible to break free.

You need to get out there. You need to explore. You need to roam the world.

But interestingly, not all of us are bitten by the same bug. Several different travel critters can come our way.

So, I’m here to help you decide which bug has visited you.

Yes, that’s right. We’re going to pick your bug. Trust me. This is going to be fun.

The Spider

If the spider has come for you, you will enjoy making your home base in a central location and taking short day-trips to take in the sights. You prefer not to venture too far once you have found a place you like.

Airbnb and VRBO are your go-to accommodations. You enjoy cooking at home and whipping up meals on the fly (so to speak). You are incredibly social. You often love to entertain with the locals, and on any given day, you will have several unexpected guests drop in. Unfortunately, some may never leave. But as you like to say, “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.”

The Grasshopper

Travelers who have been bitten by the grasshopper love to go on long treks to distant lands. Alone. If you have been bitten, you crave adventure and big moves. You enjoy jumping from continent to continent to explore the sights. You can sing but are not the best at picking up local languages.

You also know that life is short, so you want to make the most of it while you can. You love to get out and about, day and night — and prefer naps, so you don’t miss a thing. Especially the food. Because your go-to expression is, “Table for one, food for two…or three or four, just keep it coming.”

The Springtail

Did you know that the springtail has no eyes? That’s right. They have no clue where they are or where they are going. Does this sound familiar? Also, apparently, they aren’t insects; they are hexapods. But I needed them for this story, so we are going to run with it.

If springtails have bitten you, you will likely find yourself wandering aimlessly through the streets of whatever country you are in. You will be hopelessly lost. And there is an excellent chance you won’t speak the local language.

You also really love to live in humid, warm places, especially near swimming pools. And you prefer to sleep all day and party all night. Sadly, you can’t fly or see, so you will likely have to stay put the entire time. I’m going to hazard a guess that you may hail from America. But I could be wrong.

The Millipede

If this bug comes for you, you are in for a heck of a long trip. Pack well because you are taking the scenic route. You tend to stop to look in every shop and often fall behind.

Ultimately, you will also prefer elevators to stairs, and granny strolls to mountain treks. Those bitten by millipedes are also easy to find, just look to the nearest shop. And if you want to impress them take them to the spa for a backrub or sing them a little song. Anyone who has come across this bug should check out Italy.

The Moth

Finally, there is the moth. If you have encountered this bug, then you feel an inexplicable need to travel. You love to take things to extremes.

This bug bit my husband. He ended up trying to go into Afghanistan years ago to shoot AK-47s. Don’t ask me why. A moth bit him — what can I say. These travelers are often lured into big adventures but get themselves into trouble in the process. They want to do what no other travelers have done before.

If you are one of these travelers, then you steer clear of well-trodden paths. You prefer war zones and are always trying to get to infinity and beyond. Just keep in mind that Buzz Lightyear ended up back in the toybox when all was said and done. So, be careful out there, moths.

In the End

Many of us have the travel bug today. We’ve been cooped up for the past year. We want to get out, set sail, and explore the world. But everyone has their own unique bug.

In case you are wondering, I am a grasshopper. One day, I may transform miraculously into a millipede, but for now, I’m still a hopper.

But at the end of the day, it’s about finding a travel style that suits you. Knowing this is half the battle. So, connect with your travel bug. Revel in what this means. And enjoy the adventures ahead.

Finally, pat yourself on the back because you did it. You read a whole article about travel and bugs. Bravo!
