Birthing A New World

Gaia is ready. Are you?

After darkness is worn and transfers to the light of morn diligent watchman, salty Shore is keeping score

Mother Earth raises her head to salute watchman Shore and Father Sun but gasps with dread at her glaciers almost gone

So Earth cries day and night and Sun hurriedly wipes her tears away In the dimming of the light he promises to find a way

But the way — it needs roots attached to human hearts and brains for without one or the other it would all be in vain

I cannot get Desiree Driesenaar’s article out of my mind; you know, the one where she invites us, girls, to get our hands dirtied with birthing blood.

“To be midwives,” she says and adds:

“The problems are big, but the solutions aren’t too difficult. We just have to zoom out. Become eagles. Fly on thermal cycles. See through the mist and do what we are born to do.

“We limit the flow of abundance by making business models on scarcity. As if creating money is all that counts. Don’t we see it? We cannot eat money! We cannot breathe money! We cannot drink money!

“Why is clean water not way more important than the brand of shampoo that is killing our rivers with life-threatening chemicals?”

Exactly! That’s what I want to know. Desiree offers suggestions. This is how we’ll do this, she says:

Her words echo in my soul. I hear Mother weeping, and I want to help. That’s how the above poem came to be. Won’t you join by adding your strength to this great cause that concerns us all? For Gaia.

We care. I know that Greta Thunberg and her team are busy, but I’d like them to know that we’re working towards the same goal. And let them know how much we appreciate them for all they’re doing.
