Birthday Wishes
A Poem

1 The future looks like you, returning from the dead. Your body still perfect and intact, those round glasses you sometimes wore. We would drive with the windows down, mazzy star blaring through the sound system.
2 No amount of wishing, no amount of therapy can bring you back. Sometimes I wish I’d never met you, would it be easier that way?
3 I don’t know how I live now, everything seems hazy and dissociative. I feel like a war wife, awaiting her man’s return. Except, I know the truth.
