Birth Doesn’t Make You Noble. Action Does.
Time to awake humanity and treat everyone equally
We measure and compare each and everything around us. Houses, occupations, vehicles, including everything and anything. Due to this process of measuring and comparing, there are categories in the society which divides people as superior and inferior. The financial wealth, skin complexion, family background, country of origin, race, and religion are the most common measures people use.
When thinking about the above measurement tools, most of them were determined by birth. Birth is something we have no control of. We don’t select our parents, family, or home to born into. Not even the race, religion, or country of origin. It’s solely a random selection and some people born with a silver spoon in their mouth while unfortunately others are not.
If people think the birth makes one person superior to others, it’s a mistake that needs to be corrected immediately. The birth cannot determine anyone as noble and supreme. And also birth or the family don’t make anyone shameful and ignorant. If not the birth, what is the measurement of a noble person to an ignorant person?
There’s a nice preaching of Lord Buddha which explains this precisely. “It is not the birth that makes a noble person or an ignoble/shameful person, but it is one’s actions (the way one lives one’s life) that determines whether one is a noble person or an ignoble person”
Lord Buddha was born in ancient India where the cast discrimination was at its highest. Lower cast people were forbidden even to see a higher cast. Usually, those lower cast people were occupied as slaves to work for higher casts. Commonly, lower cast people die in exhaustion and physical harassment during this pre-industrial era.
By seeing the dispute of ancient society Lord Buddha preached that all the humans should be treated equally and there is no superiority over the complexion of the skin or the social status. The character of a person, his behavior, and actions are the only measurements of royalty.
We live in a modernized world with technological advancements, that’s what we believe. However, the human attitudes still need a purification as the beliefs, attitudes and behaviors of some people still belong to pre-historic era.
If a person possesses great human qualities like compassion, sympathy, and kindness he/she is noble than the rest. If a person is selfish, jealous, and arrogant, he/she is a shameful person in the society.
If one’s character is spoiled with racism, hatred, and revenge, and if his/her actions destroy himself and the world, how can he/she be superior to others? It’s just a personal belief and not a reality. If a person practices compassion, kindness, and generosity, while treating everyone equally, isn’t it the real superior thoughts one could develop?
Hence, it’s time to awake humanity and treat everyone equally. The superiority of humans is determined by the character and the actions. It will never depend on the social status, complexion of skin or the physical belongings. Therefore, it’s the high time to think twice and act upon as civilized humans, since the world need time to heal from all the sufferings.
